2012 Election Post-Mortem

Another election, and plenty of opportunities lost.  First, with the Presidential race I got 44 out of 50 states right, which is my worst call yet.  But, I was far from alone on that one and people far smarter and more prominent than I got it even worse.  At the time of this writing, Florida still hasn’t been officially called, but I assume Obama will get it and a final tally of 332-206, although the popular vote was much closer than that Electoral College number looks. You’ve always heard it here first

Now that there’s been more than 1000 posts on the Longmont Advocate/LightningRod/Politics sites, and many more previous entries on Chris Rodriguez’s Wrongmont blog, it strikes me how many times the non-politically correct, common sense point of view has proven to be true in the long run vs. the reactionary pushing of underlying agendas.

One of the numerous examples from Chris’s writings – Cooling off a solar flare-up – came in early 2010 when Mayor Bryan Baum was besieged by the local left due to his efforts to halt a program providing solar system rebates to Longmont residential and commercial customers at a cost to the city of $150,000. Fracking: A new high in scaremongering

(A condensed version of the following letter appeared in the 3/4/12 Longmont Times-Call.)

President Obama’s anti-capitalistic agenda of killing our nation’s oil and gas industry is finally being felt locally as nervous politicians buy into the exaggerated fracking scare by issuing frantic moratoriums as if this practice will surely bring the World to an end tomorrow, when we should all know that this threatened destiny is simply not true. The big, bad oil companies—which sell ROAR.org members their gasoline–drill because they own or lease the mineral rights and Colorado already has pretty stiff rules regarding how and where they can drill (according to Gov. Hickenlooper, himself a former geologist) including the use of hydraulic fracturing chemicals. And of course, Obama’s act of stopping the Keystone Pipeline and its 20,000 jobs is never mentioned in any of the anti-fracking coverage or accompanying editorials. Continue reading

Longmont celebrates the business community, President Obama asks more of them

The Longmont City Council will recognize the business community at the Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 city council meeting with a mayoral proclamation designating 2011 as the “The Year of Business in Longmont” and invites all citizens in the community to “recognize the importance of our local businesses to the success of our community as a whole.”

Free to be deranged and delusional

You may have noticed our motto on the right as “a mentally balanced community of adult contributors“.  If on the other hand you’d like to see what the alternative looks like, I can point you in that direction if you prefer.

It would be a full time job correcting the lazy writing and fact checking of our local leftward loons, but that would assume they have much of an audience, so why waste the time?  Previously, they claimed my wife was at some function she was miles from, and now one of their contributors claimed I wrote something I didn’t, and that I “write for big money”.  I’ll wait for you to stop laughing. Local angle on potential national bombshell

That ever so subtle whiff of possible felonious activity you may or not be aware of at President Obama‘s cabinet level is also something addressed at the local level in Longmont.  The current Longmont Fair Campaign Practices Act has a provision for “encouraging withdrawal from a campaign“.  The federal version is an impeachable offense and could land one in prison, the local version carries the highest penalty ($499) of any any offense in the ordinance. Shocker! Organizing For America exploits children

File this under “too good not to repeat” – from the Daily Gut:

——————————————————————-

So “Organizing for America,” which used to be called “Obama for America,” held a contest to create an ad for health care reform. And they asked “you,” to contribute your ideas. Of course, when they said “you”, they really didn’t mean YOU. They meant the typical left-wing artist they enlisted to film the ads for them! That’s why it`s called propaganda, not art. Check out the winner. Continue reading

Here comes the astroturfing

Citizens of Longmont, prepare.  You’re about to be astroturfed!
(If you need a definition of astroturfing, here’s the definition according to Wikipedia)
I’m sure you’ve heard of grassroots efforts.  Well, the opposite of that, the manufactured kind of fake support is fake grass, aka astroturf.  The Obama-bots and their arm Organizing For America are the Houston Astros of astroturfing, fakery and fraud down to an art form.  I’m sure you’ve seen their signs that are uniform in color and design (and intentionally so, to look like Obama’s campaign signs) at various events where they inject themselves, usually uninvited.
Well, now the mother party is injecting themselves into our local non-partisan city council race.  According to the Longmont Dim(wit)s, er Dems – “participate in a lit drop for the 3 Democratic City Council candidates.” They don’t name those 3 City Council candidates, but we’ll assume it’s Karen Benker, Kaye Fissinger, and Bill Van Dusen based on previous articles here and there.
Funny how I heard these same types complain when some candidates went to a Republican Women forum (they despise women with differing views) crying foul that political parties shouldn’t get involved.  After this I don’t want to hear any more of this hypocritical double standard swill that they peddle endlessly.  Some of these same candidates that went to the Republican function went to the Longmont Area Democrat forum, where they had to endure a number of questionably hand picked questions.
So look for literature to drop on a porch near you.  I’m sure their candidates names will look really attractive in Obama Blue with the same fonts and catch phrases.  Their meeting to discuss this will be at the Longmont Public Library on Oct 17 at 9:00am.  Don’t expect to be allowed in.  This is a secret society after all.

Telemarketing For America (TFA)

The good little lapdogs of (Community) Organizing For America (never forget the “CO” in ACORN is “Community Organizations”) will be coming to a phone near you, probably right around dinner time.  See, you need to be reminded to get in line and support the Obama effort, in whatever shape or form that may be.  Let’s take a look at how many “volunteers” are signing on to be involved:

Here’s a snapshot of what would appear a fairly large operation, at least you’d think.
Colorado Democratic Party Office (Denver, CO)

Your energy is needed more than ever to help OFA reach out to our neighbors in gathering support for the President’s three principles for real health reform. Reform and change is within our reach–we can’t let fear overcome our strongest, most honest hopes for comprehensive change in our health system. THIS IS OUR TIME, RIGHT NOW!

Even if you have only an hour to spare—your efforts will help OFA connect with people that we may not have been able to reach. Every bit helps our cause–so do not hesitate-ACT NOW!

Odds are, if you’re reading this blog (as in your typical, average, non-U.S. hating American) you probably won’t be getting this call – this is more of a preaching to the choir kind of thing.  But I guess anything is possible, our local OFA contingent has been in the paper here recently and occasionally speak at City Council.

They’ll be calling you with a prepared script, maybe you should have your own!  Think of it like a candid camera (oh yeah, record it!) or that MTV show “Punk’d” and have a little discussion with them.  Use your imagination, maybe things like:

  • Why are you interrupting my dinner?
  • Does it hurt to have your own thoughts and spine ripped out?
  • Did you always blindly follow marching orders, or did you at one time think for yourself?
  • Didn’t the early days of the Nazi movement also “rally” their troops like this?
  • At what point do you question if what you’re doing is right?
  • Why do you hate your country so much that you’d just blindly go along with just about anything for the “cause”?
  • Are you on drugs, or in need of some?
  • No habla ingles.
  • Would you be my friend?
  • Where can we meet to discuss this?  Dark alley around late o’ clock?
  • Who are you?  Who sent you?  Are you with the government?!
  • What about healthcare for prairie dogs?  No, I’m not joking.

Have fun with it, the possibilities are endless.  Maybe you’ll bring a little smile to a fairly miserable bunch of people.  Remember, they won!  They control all branches of our government.  Yet why do they seem more miserable than ever?  Food for thought.
